Gen 1 (approx. 1982–1987)
- Representative: Glock 17 (the first model released, prototype of the Glock series).

Gen 2 (approx. 1988–1997)
- Common/models introduced or improved to Gen2 style during this period: G17 (Gen2), G18 (select-fire/auto model, released around 1987/1988), G19 (first mass-produced and popularized during this period), etc.

Gen 3 (approx. 1998–2009)
- Numerous models widely produced in Gen3 style: G17 / G19 / G20 / G21 / G22 / G23 / G26 / G27 / G34 / G35, etc. (Gen3 is one of the most popular Glock generations).

Gen 4 (approx. 2010–2016)
- Built on Gen3 foundation with interchangeable backstraps and dual recoil spring: Common Gen4 models include G17 Gen4, G19 Gen4, G22 Gen4, G26 Gen4, G34 Gen4, etc. (multiple Gen4 versions gradually released from 2010).

Gen 5 (2017–Present)
- Glock released Gen5 in 2017 with improved barrel (Marksman Barrel), removed finger grooves, ambidextrous slide release, etc. Representative/Gen5 versions include: G17 Gen5, G19 Gen5, G26 Gen5, G34 Gen5, G19X/G45/G43X/48 (some are Gen5 design or hybrid). Official also extended Gen5 to various calibers and MOS/special editions.
